Medicare Part D Enrollment — 2027
The short answer: Part D enrollment follows the same windows as Medicare Advantage, with its own late penalty.
The main Part D enrollment window for 2027 coverage is open now, through December 7, 2026 (42 days remain).
You can join a Part D prescription drug plan during your Initial Enrollment Period, the fall Annual Election Period, or a Special Enrollment Period. Part D is optional, but delaying it without other creditable drug coverage builds a late-enrollment penalty: 1% of the national base beneficiary premium for each full month you were eligible but not enrolled, added to your premium for as long as you have Part D.
People who qualify for Extra Help pay reduced Part D costs and can change Part D plans outside the fall window. Stand-alone Part D plans for each state are listed on the state hubs: Florida, Georgia, Texas.
Related: Medicare enrollment periods and deadlines covers every yearly enrollment window, including the Part D deadlines, and Medicare Special Enrollment Periods covers changes outside those windows, including for D-SNP members.
