Compare coverage without the noise

Most Medicare comparisons come down to five tradeoffs. Use this framework with any plan, any brochure, or any advisor — including us. This Alpha frames the questions; it does not rank plans or carriers.

The five tradeoffs

  1. Doctors and providers

Can you keep the doctors and hospitals you use? Some options let you see any provider that accepts Medicare; others use networks. Ask: “Are my specific doctors in this option, and what happens if they leave?”

  2. Prescription drugs

Coverage, pharmacy rules, and costs differ per drug list. Ask: “Is each of my medications covered, at which tier, and at which pharmacy is it cheapest?”

  3. Costs — monthly and when you use care

A lower monthly premium can mean higher costs when you actually get care, and vice versa. Ask: “What is the most I could pay in a bad year, not just the premium?”

  4. Travel and snowbird time

If you travel or live part of the year elsewhere, coverage rules differ a lot between options. Ask: “What is covered when I am away from home, routine care included?”

  5. Support and extras

Dental, vision, hearing, rides, meals, and help lines vary. Ask: “Which extras would I actually use, and who helps me when something goes wrong?”

No rankings here, on purpose

Which option fits you depends on your doctors, drugs, budget, and travel — facts this page does not have. Any site that ranks “the best plan” without those facts is guessing. This Alpha gives you the questions; a licensed advisor can apply them to your situation.
